2007 Kendrick Lamar DubCNN Interview
Kendrick Lamar (then using the name K.Dot) talked about his early work with Top Dawg Entertainment and Def Jam Records. He was working on a mixtape called "Training Day" while helping promote fellow artist Jay Rock's song "Lift Me Up" which was playing on radio at that time. Lamar said he didn't want to be put in just one rap category, saying he made music that showed "pure artistry." He worked with music makers like DJ Quik, Fredwreck, Sounwave, and 4th Quarter. Top Dawg helped him meet and work with The Game. Lamar also shared praise for up and coming West Coast artists like B.O., Stix, Bad Lucc, Young Dubb, Juice, and Ya Boy.
