Israel and Palestine signed an accord which allowed for limited self rule for Palestine by creating the Palestinian Authority to manage civil affairs in population centers in Gaza and the West Bank which would be ran elected officials . The accord also divided the West Bank and Gaza into distinct zones with different level of authorities ranging from full Palestinian control to full Israeli control.
